FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does a typical photoshoot involve?
I adopt a lifestyle/documentary approach to photography as I believe that is the best way to capture honest, raw connection. This means that during a shoot I try to follow a family’s lead as much as possible but may offer some gentle prompting to help loosen things up - it’s hard to behave in a natural way with a big camera in your face! So we will chat, laugh and play so that by the end of the session we ought to have captured a good variety of candid images.
Where will the photoshoot take place?
I offer both in-home and outdoor shoots. Indoor sessions are best suited to newborns (and tired, busy parents!). Don’t be put off if you feel your home isn’t picture perfect, it doesn’t need to be. As long as there are a few windows letting in some decent light, I will be able to create a little magic. In my experience, homes that are obviously “lived in” make for beautiful photographs full of character and familiarity. When you look back at these photos in years to come, they will showcase this period of your life in an organic, meaningful way. We will have a pre-session video call before your shoot so that I can indicate where I think the most ideal spots in your home are (with regards to light) and this will give you a little time to prepare those spaces in advance.
Should you prefer an outdoor session, I will select a good spot which offers a scenic backdrop for your photos and send you the directions to and details of this location prior to the shoot.
How long does a photoshoot take?
The duration of each shoot depends on where the session is taking place and how old the participants being photographed are. Newborn sessions can take anywhere between 1.5 - 3 hours to allow for any breaks that may need to be taken (changing / feeding / fussing etc.) Outdoor sessions with young families tend to take around 1 hour. Please note, these are estimates. I try not to rush sessions (within reason) in order to be able to capture enough content.
What on earth should we wear?!
This is a common concern for most! Lifestyle photography is meant to be authentic, and as such I would like to photograph you as you are, in whatever you and your family feel most comfortable. That being said, in order for your images to have a cohesive and timeless feel, it is worth planning your wardrobe ahead of the session. The last thing you want is to carve out time to have a photoshoot, only to be dissatisfied with the end result as some clothes distract from your faces or appear too garish. Sometimes it is tricky to know how to put together separate outfits that complement each other and photograph well. In order to address this, I’ll send you a wardrobe guide before our session with some helpful examples and colour palettes which you can use for reference when planning what to wear.
When will my photos be ready and how will they be delivered?
Once our session is done, I will aim to have your gallery ready within two weeks and send out some sneak peeks prior, to keep things exciting! When your gallery has been fully edited and put together, an online zoom call will be arranged to go through the images so that you can select which collection you’d like to purchase. Once payment has been received at my end, you will be granted access to an online gallery so that you may download and share your images.
